Brothers Union boycott DPL match over unpaid salaries
Brothers Union Boycott DPL Match Over Unpaid Salaries
A major controversy unfolded in the 9th round of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) as Brothers Union players boycotted their match against Agrani Bank Cricket Club. As a result, Agrani Bank were awarded the win without a ball being bowled.
The match was scheduled to take place at BKSP Ground No. 4. However, Brothers Union players refused to take the field. Cricketers including Sohag Gazi and Jubair Hossain Likhon stood firm in their decision not to play.
Background of the Boycott
With Brothers Union failing to appear, match officials declared Agrani Bank the winners.
The awarded victory gave Agrani Bank their fifth win of the season. They have now won five of their nine matches while losing four.
For Brothers Union, the season has been a difficult one. The team had already lost seven of their first eight matches and managed only one victory before this incident.
Other Matches in the 9th Round
Meanwhile, other matches in the 9th round saw Bashundhara Strikers face Dhaka Leopards, Legends of Rupganj take on Abahani Limited, Mohammedan Sporting Club meet Gazi Group Cricketers, Gulshan Cricket Club play City Club, and Prime Bank Cricket Club face Rupganj Tigers Cricket Club.
Reason Behind the Boycott
According to reports, the boycott was triggered by dissatisfaction over unpaid salaries. Brothers Union players claim they have not yet received their full payments despite the league being close to its final stages.
