Pat Cummins Hails SRH Bowling Unit After Dominant 55-Run Win Over RCB in IPL 2026
SRH Dominate RCB with 55-Run Victory in High-Scoring IPL 2026 Clash
Sunrisers Hyderabad sent a strong message to the rest of the IPL 2026 play-off contenders with a commanding 55-run win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Despite both teams already securing their play-off spots, SRH showed zero intention of easing off, posting a mammoth 255 for 4 and then effectively shutting down RCB’s chase.
SRH Batting Fireworks Set Unreachable Target
The home side came out with explosive intent, capitalizing on a flat Hyderabad pitch and a powerful batting lineup. Ishan Kishan anchored the innings with a blistering 79 off just 46 balls, while Abhishek Sharma delivered one of the most destructive cameos of the season—56 off 22 balls. Heinrich Klaasen added further fuel to the fire with a 24-ball 51, ensuring SRH raced past 250 with ease.
Collectively, the batters dismantled RCB’s bowling attack, exposing rare off-days from their usually reliable pacers. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Bengaluru’s leading wicket-taker this season, was uncharacteristically expensive, conceding 51 in his four overs. Josh Hazlewood wasn’t spared either, leaking 55 runs, while Rasikh Salam (13.00 economy) managed two wickets but at a high cost.
RCB Chase Falls Short Despite Iyer’s Blitz
In reply, RCB needed a near-perfect performance to match the aggressive target. Opener Venkatesh Iyer, stepping in for the injured Jacob Bethell, provided a fiery start with 44 off just 19 deliveries. His aggressive intent gave Bengaluru early hope, but the required run rate quickly spiraled out of control.
Krunal Pandya and captain Rajat Patidar held the middle order together with a steady partnership, guiding RCB to 200 for 4 in their 20 overs. However, the lack of sustained aggression from the middle and lower order meant they never truly threatened the target.
Malinga and Hussain Star in SRH Bowling Masterclass
Sunrisers’ bowlers executed their plans with precision in the second innings. Eshan Malinga emerged as the standout performer, claiming 2 wickets for 33 runs in his four overs. His ability to mix up slow balls and maintain pressure during the powerplay proved crucial.
Captain Pat Cummins saved special praise for Malinga and left-arm spinner Sakib Hussain, highlighting their consistency and tactical intelligence throughout the season.
“It was pretty impressive to get the score that we did. I thought the boys batted fantastically and it’s a good bowling performance. Everyone’s hitting their straps,” Cummins said in the post-match presentation.
“The way Eshan has bowled all season, particularly in that powerplay—he’s been the form bowler of the comp with his slow balls and variations. And of course, Sakib there as well. They’ve been fantastic. I’ve actually learned a lot off those guys as well.”
Focus Shifts to Play-Offs
With the win, SRH finished their league campaign on a high, carrying strong momentum into the knockouts. When asked about the upcoming play-off in New Chandigarh, Cummins remained focused but relaxed.
“It’s still 5-6 days away. We’ll rest up, head up there, and the guys know the ground pretty well. We’ll know who we’re playing in the next day or two,” he added.
As the IPL 2026 play-offs approach, Sunrisers Hyderabad have made it clear: they’re not just participating—they’re peaking at the right time.
